The country’s first offshore wind turbine park is operational in France

France’s first offshore wind turbine park, located in the west of the country near Saint-Nazaire, has started generating electricity, Le Figaro writes with reference to the consortium that owns the facility and the operator of the French power grid system, Réseau de Transport d”Elestricité (RTE). There are now 27 wind turbines in this park. By the end of the year, their number will be increased to 80 units.

The consortium that owns the park includes EDF Renouvelables, Enbridge and CPP.

The publication recalls that wind turbines are being erected in other offshore areas of France.

In 2023, an offshore wind turbine park in Fecan (Seine Maritime department) will become operational. It is to be followed by parks in Saint-Brieuc (Côte d’Armor) and Courceulles-sur-Mer (Calvados).

“France is lagging behind in this area, but President Emmanuel Macron would like to build 50 offshore wind parks – totaling 40 GW – by 2050. At the same time, he intends to slow down the pace of the planned construction of wind turbine parks on land,” Le Figaro writes.
