No grounds for real default of Russia – Peskov

There are no grounds for a real default of the Russian Federation in fulfilling its obligations to service its foreign debt, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

“Russia has all the necessary resources to service its debts. You know that significant amounts of our reserves are blocked in foreign countries, so if this blocking continues and transfers to service debts are also blocked, they can be paid in rubles (debt obligations). If this is impossible, then, well, theoretically, of course, some kind of default situation can be organized, but this is purely an artificial default situation. There are no grounds for a real default,” Peskov said.

This is how he commented on the current situation with the payment of Russia’s foreign debt at the request of journalists on Wednesday.
